every Christmas, my neighbor jana would bring over a container of these lebanese delights. she obtained the recipe from her lebanese husband's family, and knew we appreciated them since we also have rich lebanese heritage in our household. every year, i would hide the cookies in the laundry room so no one else in the family would eat them (pretty certain there are members of my family who have no idea jana ever brought us cookies).

i just love the simplicity of these cookies and their crumbly texture. jana has graciously given me the recipe to continue this Christmas tradition, but i happily eat them year-round! i like mine topped with pine nuts, but you will also see them with almonds. they are absolutely perfect paired with a cup of tea.
